Do they show enough strong women in
magazines?
-
Don't know
-
yes, like lizzy mcguire
and britney spears
-
Depends on what you
mean by "strong", but I think that most magazines are filled with
advertising that typically portrays women who are "beautiful" as
their primary quality.
-
yeah
-
Only in distinctly
feminist magazines.
-
No
-
I believe so.
-
No
-
no
-
No!!!! They mostly show
all of the pop stars or the women who are really thin and people
think that they are "Beautiful" just because they are thin
-
No
-
No
-
No, just a bunch of
strong men.
-
Yes
-
sometimes
-
No
-
No, most the women that
are in magazines are because they have perfect skin or if they are
drop dead gorgeous and married to Brad Pitt.
-
No. I still see too
many underfed, emotionally detached women on the covers and pages.
-
yes
-
If you find the right
magazine I would say yes. There are many magazines out there that
recognize all types of women.

Do they show enough strong women on
television?
-
About half the time. The
other part are insecure, overbearing, devious, petty women.
-
well i dont know they
show some
-
There can never be
enough strong women! :-) I think it's a lot better than it used to
be.
-
yeah
-
No.
-
Yes
-
I don't watch that much
TV...
-
No

somewhat

-
No, same thing, just
strong men.
-
Yes
-
yes
-
50% of the time
-
I am starting to see
shows that portray strong women.
-
No. Hardly any shows
are built around a female lead character, and when they are, she
must be feminine and dependant on a man, so as not to be considered
too masculine.
-
yes
-
I would say no. All of
the teen shows that are out there today are mostly like soap operas.
There are some show that show strong women, like CSI, but over all I
would say they do a poor job.

no

Do you think girls are portrayed
realistically in music videos?
-
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
-
well ummmm... yeah i
guess
-
No way! Most of the
music videos that I have seen (and granted, I'm not watching a lot
of them these days) are dancing provocatively or drooling over some
guy. I don't find this to be very realistic.
-
yeah
-
HAHAHAHA
-
No
-
Not really.
-
NO
-
NO!!!!!
-
No
-
No
-
no
-
not at all. Some female
artists are really bad examples, and it's really bad for younger
girls, especially in music videos
-
No
-
not always
-
No
-
No they mostly look
like a bunch of sluts ( excuse my french)
-
No. Have you seen music
videos lately? I suppose some girls look and act like that, but
certainly not all. I think the way women are portrayed in music
videos is often degrading and sad.
-
yes, if they really
sing/music in real life
-
Absolutely not.

no

Do you think girls are portrayed
realistically in popular songs?
-
NOT USUALLY.
-
hmmmmmmm... yeah
-
Depends on who's
singing. I think women do a much better job of realistically
portraying women than men do, and a lot of popular songs sung by men
tend to paint women as objects.
-
yes
-
Depends on the
songwriter. Avril Lavigne is a bit more realistic, but others are
not so realistic.
-
No
-
Not really
-
No
-
NO!!!!
-
NO!!!!
-
No
-
No
-
some of them, some not.
-
No
-
no
-
Yes
-
No because in songs
they are usually falling in love with someone and they can't live
without a guy, and we all know that is not true! Happiness comes
from within!!!
-
Sometimes. It depends
largely on the genre of music. I appreciate pop stars like
Christina, Britney, and Madonna making even the slightest effort to
let girls know they have the right to feel, to dream, to get angry,
and to say "No". I love the line in Madonna's song "What it feels
like" where she says, "When you open up your mouth to speak, could
you be a little weak?" I think it often feels like that for girls.
-
yes
-
Most of the music that
is sang by women is realistic but when men sing about women I think
they do not understand some of the issues they are singing about.

Do you think women are shown in enough strong jobs on tv?
- NO, USUALLY JUST CRIME DRAMAS WHERE THEY ARE LAW ENFORCEMENT OR
MEDICAL.
-
well let me think kinda
-
This has gotten a lot better, but I think
we still have a long way to go.
-
yes
-
NO
-
Yes
-
Again, I don't watch that much TV.

No

NO
-
No, in some shows they show that men are
greater than women in everything that they do.
-
No
-
yes
-
No
-
Barely, once and a while you see a women
with a good job, but they should show more to boost the self esteem
of girls, and to show them that they can have a wonderful career,
because as much as we all hate to admit it, we watch tv so much that
the people shown rub off on us ( good and bad)
-
No. Often when the women are portrayed as
strong and independent, they have a husband who is whining right
next to them.
-
yup
-
No but I think they have been doing
better in the past few years.
